Facilitating Dialogue for Tanzania's Development
CSO Week 2025 returns for its eighth year, bringing together civil society organizations, government stakeholders, and development partners to facilitate dialogue that addresses Tanzania's development challenges and opportunities.
Theme: Pathways to Progress
The theme 'Pathways to Progress' provides a comprehensive, timely and strategic framework for addressing Tanzania's development aspirations, especially in the context of the upcoming elections and Vision 2050, and global challenges including climate change, economic instability, and geopolitical tensions.
In the words of Justice Rutenge, Executive Director of the Foundation for Civil Society: "The theme, pathways to progress speaks on charting pathways of moving from polycrisis to polytunity. As we are developing the Vision 2050, in essence, we are saying that we are not where we need to be but are aspiring and envisioning where we want to go by 2050. As we are shaping Tanzania's future by 2050, I call upon strengthening civil society ties built through the CSO week and forge a stronger movement for the interests of the civil society sector, broader citizens and the nation."
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a platform for meaningful dialogue that strengthens the relationship between CSOs and public agencies while fostering awareness about the positive contribution of civil society organizations to the development of Africa.
Our Approach
Through the theme "Pathways to Progress," we aim to recognize the current state of CSOs, review challenges, rethink strategic approaches, and re-strategize on harnessing the collective power of civil society for inclusive development.
Core Development Pathways
Sessions at CSO Week 2025 will explore five core development pathways for dialogue:
Democratization and its Opportunities

A Green Future
Addressing climate change challenges and exploring sustainable development pathways that protect Tanzania's environment and natural resources.
Holistic Futures

- The Power of Ideas: A session where participants share innovative concepts without titles or formal introductions, focusing solely on the ideas themselves.
- Community Outreach: A day out in the communities in Arusha where participants interact with local CSOs and their work promoting citizen agency and democratic governance.
- Visioning Salon: Sessions providing spaces to enhance citizens' agency and prompt discussions through pre-empted tools and guidelines.
- CSO-to-CSO Clinics: Sessions where CSOs share their expertise while building the capacity of other CSOs.
